The city’s Code Enforcement officers work diligently to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all people by eliminating specific dangers and hazards in the city. They do this by ensuring that residents and businesses adhere to city, state and federal codes through education and compliance.

Top Code Enforcement Issues

Our Code Enforcement team responds to many types of issues, but the Top 4 Code Enforcement issues are:

  1. Vehicles
  2. Front Yard Maintenance
  3. Backyard Maintenance
  4. Trash, Recycle and Green Waste “Carts”

The city has programs to educate and help residents come into compliance with code enforcement violations.

What Happens When There’s a Code Violation

When a complaint comes in, or a potential violation is observed by Code Enforcement officers, the team determines the threat level to residents and conducts one of three inspections:

  • Routine Inspections occur when there is not a health and safety hazard, but there is a code violation.
  • Regular Inspections occur when there is a violation that could lead to a health and safety hazard if not corrected within one to seven days.
  • Immediate Inspections occur when there is an immediate threat to the health, safety and welfare of the public that must be corrected within 24 hours.

Education and compliance are always the city’s goals. Our code enforcement officers prefer to work with residents and businesses to correct code violations rather than issue a fine, and we’ve put programs in place that help achieve compliance.

How to Report Concerns or Issues

Help keep our community beautiful and safe by reporting concerns via the Rancho Cordova Connect app. It’s as simple as downloading the app, snapping a photo of the concern, and sending it to us. We will follow up immediately.

What to Do If You Receive a Notice

There are three types of notices:

  • Courtesy Letter: This is a friendly notice, asking you to correct a city, state or federal code violation within a specified amount of time. If corrected, there are no repercussions. Need more time? Call us to make arrangements.
  • Notice & Order: This is serious notice, indicating that you have not complied with the Courtesy Letter, or you have a history of same/similar violations within the past 12 months. You must comply with this order in the specified amount of time, or you could receive a fine.
  • Administrative Citation
