Emma Thompson’s award winning film SOLD, directed by Academy Award winning director Jeffrey D. Brown, will be screened, followed by its third consecutive pledge drive for at-risk children of Sonagachi in Kolkata, India. These fundraisers have made a great difference in Sonagachi including the formation of a free (non-residential) school, free medical care, and stress relief camps! The program now aims to establish the much awaited residential school for these kids away from the region. SOLD is a powerful film about child trafficking and is based on the novel by Patricia McCormick that tells the heartbreaking journey of a young girl, Lakshmi, who is taken from her home in Nepal to a brothel in Kolkata, India.
