Council Member Garrett Gatewood was appointed to the City Council on June 5, 2017. He was appointed to the City Council seat left vacant by the passing of longtime City Council Member Dan Skoglund. He was then elected to the City Council in November 2018. He served as Mayor in 2021 and as Vice Mayor in 2020.

Garrett Gatewood is the co-founder of ABSO Technologies, Inc., with headquarters in Gold River. ASBO utilizes a holistic approach to delivering leading-edge technology solutions to businesses and organizations throughout Northern California.

Garrett, his wife, and two sons have been residents of Rancho Cordova for 17 years, where he has served as a city council member for over six years. In 2021, he became the first black mayor in Rancho Cordova’s history and was identified by The Sacramento Bee as one of the Top 25 Black Change Makers in in the region.

In addition, he’s a longstanding member of the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber for the past three years. He is involved in several nonprofits, including Sonders Solutions, which places veterans into jobs, and Region Technology, which works to bring technology jobs to the greater Sacramento region.

Garrett was instrumental in a South White Rock clean-up event in partnership with city staff, Republic Services, and Volunteers in Neighborhood Services. He and his family are actively involved at River City Christian Church and somehow, he still finds time to coach his sons in Little League and soccer.
