American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 provided $350 billion in emergency funding for state, local, territorial and Tribal governments as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City of Rancho Cordova's received $15,588,333 in ARPA funds, which can be used to address pandemic-response needs, revenue shortfalls, and support communities affected by the COVID-19 crisis. In June 2022, the City Council approved an initial plan for how ARPA funds should be spent. Plans for the use of these funds must be finalized by the end of 2024, and all funds must be spent by the end of 2026.
ARPA Funds for Neighborhoods Disproportionately Impacted
Of the over $15 million the City of Rancho Cordova received, the city set aside $2.5 million dollars for neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
To better understand the improvements needed in these neighborhoods, the city fielded a survey to gather input directly from residents residing in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this survey was to gather community input to identify neighborhood needs and hear residents' potential project ideas.
Survey responses indicated that street lighting, traffic/speeding, more community spaces, and a dog park and/or community gardens are priorities.
