The Communications & Public Affairs Department includes three divisions: Communications, Legislation and Community Engagement.
Communications Division
The Communications Division’s goal is to ensure that residents and businesses have access to trusted, accurate and easy-to-understand information. The communications team manages multiple communications channels and develops content for each channel, including the following:
- The city and RCPD websites
- Three digital newsletters: Rancho Cordova News, Rancho Cordova Events and Rancho Cordova Alerts
- Social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor, Threads, YouTube and LinkedIn.
- City publications
In addition, the team responds to media inquiries; coordinates city news announcements; supports city departments and divisions with public education efforts; and manages internal communications.

Community Engagement Division
The city’s Community Engagement Division plays an important city role by bringing neighbors together, growing community leaders, connecting residents and businesses with volunteer opportunities, and administering the city’s community micro grant program. And the team does this through four important programs:
- Neighborhood Engagement
- Community Service/Volunteer Program
- Beautification Projects
- Community Grants

Legislative Division
Along with advocacy partners at both the state and federal level, the city’s legislative team monitors legislation at the local, state and national level that would affect the way in which the city does business. Each year, the city prepares a legislative booklet that outlines federal funding priority requests, as well as policy areas that the city advocates for or against.
