Leadership Rancho Cordova Graduates Celebrate with Bike Rack Project

Post Date:06/09/2017 9:01 AM

The participants of this year’s Leadership Rancho Cordova class celebrated the program’s culmination at their graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 8th at City Hall.

This is the 11th class of students to complete the Leadership Rancho Cordova program, which is organized by the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the program provides personal and public leadership training to a diverse group of Rancho Cordova residents and business leaders through a series of classes, as well as a group project focused on making a difference in the community.

This year’s class, Class XI, raised over $25,000 to create and install six artistic bike racks that will be placed in various locations in Rancho Cordova, including Hagan Park, the Sacramento Children’s Museum, Mather Veterans Village, Folsom Lake College/Rancho Cordova Center and Rivergate Plaza.

Leadership students unveiled the Rancho Cordova-themed bike racks outside at the Sacramento Children’s Museum alongside Sacramento-based metal sculptor, Gina Rossi, who designed, created and installed the bike racks.

Rossi described the bike racks as “functional art” and said the bike racks will help “get kids and people riding their bikes and staying green so we can have a good community and world.”

Students and supporters gathered at City Hall on June 8th to celebrate Class XI’s graduation and the completion of their bike rack project, which will provide Rancho Cordova cyclists and families more safe places to park and lock their bikes.

“Leadership Rancho Cordova was an incredible experience. As a class, we pooled our diverse set of skills and strengths to create a meaningful and lasting project  that benefits the Rancho Cordova community,” said Maria Kniestedt, the City of Rancho Cordova’s Communications & Public Affairs Director and member of Leadership Rancho Cordova’s Class XI. “Our class is looking forward to seeing the community enjoy these artistic bike racks.”
