Mayor Linda Budge Gives 2023 Update

Post Date:01/30/2023

Rancho Cordova Mayor Linda Budge kicked off 2023 by outlining ongoing projects and programs, as well as key events scheduled to take place as the city celebrates its 20th birthday, at the Rancho Cordova Luncheon on January 20.

In her presentation to residents and business owners, Mayor Budge discussed how the city is a great place to live, work, learn and play. She began by detailing the continued expansion in housing with ten projects under construction and eight more in the pipeline for Fiscal Year 2022/2023.

“If you think back to 2002 and 2003, Rancho Cordova had been stagnant for almost 20 years,” said Mayor Budge. “Today, we have a home for everyone. From our established, tree-lined streets to new neighborhoods that are ready for young growing families, our builders are offering a lifestyle for all.”

New public works and infrastructure projects are set to be completed or will enter the planning phase this year, Mayor Budge said. Road rehabilitation projects will be completed throughout the city, including work on Mather Field Road and in the Mills Ranch and Rossmoor neighborhoods. Nearly $20 million in funding was awarded for a pedestrian overcrossing over Highway 50 at Zinfandel Drive.

The added housing is also bringing new businesses and retail developments, she said, with three shopping centers currently under construction and more to come. Handel’s Ice Cream will be joining Sprouts in the Stone Creek Village shopping center. Expansion of Anatolia Marketplace continues with Dutch Brothers, Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop and others coming soon. A small shopping center under construction at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and International Drive opened a 7-11 and Raise the Roost Chicken and Biscuits.

Thousands of jobs will also be added this year, with employers such as UC Davis and Solidigm joining the community. Another new hotel, TownePlace Suites, will open across from Sunrise Station, which will serve business and recreational travelers and provide additional local jobs. The Barrel District is also expanding with a new winery, Drink Eezy, opening soon.

The city will continue to prioritize educational opportunities for youth and those looking to attend college, Mayor Budge said. The Rancho Cordova Youth Center will provide a safe place for kids to recreate and get help with their homework. The Rancho Cordova Promise Program will continue to offer two years of fee-free college for local high school graduates and military veterans at Folsom Lake College.

Mayor Budge also outlined key events on the calendar and ways to have fun in 2023. She highlighted a series of special events to commemorate the city’s 20th Anniversary, including art and musical performances, a parade, and fireworks shows. The events will take place between June 30 to July 4 with a theme of “20 Years, A Million Dreams.”

“Rancho Cordova ultimately is a great place to play,” Mayor Budge said. “There is one thing we all know that we do better than anywhere else in the region. We have more fun than anybody else. And this year, the Cordova Community Council is going to help us celebrate the city’s 20th Anniversary in some very big ways.”
