Celebrating One Year of Impact: Rancho Cordova Youth Center's 1st Birthday Bash

Post Date:03/27/2024 3:27 PM

Amidst colorful birthday cards and a joyful atmosphere, the Rancho Cordova Youth Center (RCYC) celebrated its first birthday with a community-wide bash on Thursday, March 14th. The event marked a year of growth, empowerment, and positive impact on the youth of Rancho Cordova.

The festivities, held at the beautiful state-of-the-art facility, located on Investment Circle, drew families from across the city who came to enjoy food trucks, cupcakes, and an assortment of fun activities. From arts and crafts to obstacle course races, attendees enjoyed the diverse offerings that RCYC provides to kids year-round.

"We are incredibly proud of the Rancho Cordova Youth Center and its impact on our community in just one year,” said Rancho Cordova Mayor David Sander. “This celebration marks not only a milestone but a testament to our commitment to providing our youth with a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.”

The Youth Center, a city-owned and managed community space, has been a place of inspiration and opportunity for the youth, of Rancho Cordova thanks to partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento and the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League (PAL). Together, they offer an array of free programs designed to cater to the interests and needs of young people aged 6-17.

Attendees at the birthday bash had the chance to learn more about these programs, which include Power Hour for homework assistance, Health and Wellness sessions focusing on nutrition and fitness, arts and crafts, and technology labs for honing computer skills. Moreover, the introduction of new enrichment programs in 2024, such as Youth Poet Laureate and STEM Education, has further enriched the offerings at RCYC.

The community's response to first year of operation has been overwhelmingly positive. Since its official opening on February 27th, 2023, RCYC has served 457 youth in Rancho Cordova, representing diverse cultural backgrounds and age groups.

Looking ahead, the City and its partners are committed to sustaining and expanding the offerings at RCYC to further engage the youth in Rancho Cordova. Plans are underway to issue another Request for Proposals for the 2024/25 school year programming, with the aim of reaching even more young people and providing them with opportunities for growth and development.

“Together with our partners, we will continue to invest in programs and resources that empower our young people and shape a brighter future for Rancho Cordova,” added Sander

Families in Rancho Cordova interested in enrolling their children in RCYC programs throughout the year can visit the City of Rancho Cordova's website at www.CityOfRanchoCordova.org/YouthCenter. Here, they can find information about upcoming events and program offerings.
