Kassis Property map

The City of Rancho Cordova researched the issues raised by residents about the public easement located on the Kassis property, and below is summary of the city’s findings. The city also created a map to illustrate the many elements related to this issue (above). Additional maps were referenced while researching this issue, and those are available via links below.

In addition, staff gave a brief response on this issue to the public during the City Manager’s report at the Monday, May 17, 2021 City Council meeting.

Background

There are two trail easements on the Kassis Property: The Trail Easement, which is off of Stirling Park Drive, and the Tiffany Farms Trail Easement, which is off of Rod Beaudry Drive. The two easements do not connect.

Access to the Easements

The City has worked with the property owner to remove the fencing that was blocking access to the Trail Easement off of Stirling Park Drive, as well as the fencing that was around the horse corral.

The driveway off of Folsom Blvd. is a private driveway and not for public use. Because the driveway is private, it is staff's recommendation that the white fence along the driveway can remain until a connection to Mira Del Rio is constructed.

The Trail Easement does continue to Mira Del Rio; however, there is no bridge over the drainage canal, which would require prioritization and funding for the improvement. This section of the easement is located in the county not in the city. The County of Sacramento also has not opened the easement connecting to Mira Del Rio.

Walking Trails

Visitors to this area have been accessing walking trails that are on private land, not the public Trail Easement. The property owner has stated that they intend to mark the location of the Trail Easement, so visitors can stay on the public path.

The Tiffany Farms Trail Easement remains accessible to the river from Rod Beaudry Drive.
