The City of Rancho Cordova’s Planning Commission is comprised of seven appointed Rancho Cordova residents who assist the City Council by reviewing proposed city development projects and making recommendations about them. These recommendations could include approvals, denials or requests for changes to development projects. In some cases, development proposals will be heard by the City Council for final approval. Learn more below about the Planning Commission below.

Planning Commissioners

At the April 18, 2022 Rancho Cordova City Council meeting, the City Council appointed seven Rancho Cordova residents to the city’s Planning Commission. The seven Planning Commissioners include five regular members and two at-large members who reside in the City of Rancho Cordova. Learn more about the members below.

The City Council voted to reinstate the Planning Commission in November 2021.

Responsibilities

The Planning Commission partners with the city’s Planning Division and is responsible for:

  • Serving as the approval authority on proposed development projects, per Chapter 23.104 of the Rancho Cordova Municipal Code.
  • Promoting public interest in and understanding of the city’s general plan, specific plans, special planning areas, and regulations relating to such plans.
  • Considering and providing recommendations to the City Council on amendments to the general plan, zoning code, specific plans, and special planning areas.
  • Considering subdivision matters arising from the Subdivision Map Act and the Rancho Cordova Municipal Code.
  • Considering appeals of the city’s Community Development Director.
  • Performing other powers and duties as directed by the City Council.

The Planning Commission regularly meets on the second Wednesday of every month and on an as needed basis the fourth Wednesday of every month at 5:30 PM at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive. The Planning Commission will also meet at other times the chairperson, in partnership with the city’s Planning Division, deems necessary to perform the duties of the commission.
